Using our listings data

We’ve been collecting, publishing and sharing listings information from UK arts and heritage organisations for over a decade – over this time we’ve built a comprehensive and high-quality database of venues and events.

We believe that sharing our listings data openly, at no charge, to a range of partners such as Art UK, the First World War Centenary Partnership and Age of Revolution, allows more people to engage with arts and heritage, which is why we’re here in the first place.

So, we aim to make it easy for our listings data to be shared and used. There are a couple of ways you can do this:

Via our REST API

Our API lets you make ‘calls’ over the web to our data, which you can display on your own website or app however you choose. Our own website Show Me is just one example of what you can create with our data.

You can find details of how our API works and descriptions of our listings data fields in our notes for developers.

Via a WordPress plugin

If that sounds too technical for you then our friends at Imperial War Museums created a WordPress plugin which makes it even easier to use Culture24 listings information on your website or blog – this is what they used to populate their events listings for the First World War Centenary Partnership.

The WordPress plugin produced by Imperial War Museums is available here.

If spreadsheets are more your style and you’re after a one-off look at the listings, we can do that too.

You’ll need an access key!

Please note you will need a ‘key’ from Culture24 to enable you to access our data. Please read the legal bit below then, if you’re still keen, get in touch and we’ll issue you with one.

The legal stuff

Whilst we offer the listings data at no charge, we do ask that data partners sign up to our terms and conditions with a simple licensing agreement. This is to ensure you understand the provenance of the data, the contexts in which it may be used and the scope of Culture24’s support for your usage of the data.

Culture24’s Data Protection Policy also references the data held within our database and relates to the way we store and use any data arising from sustaining partnerships of this kind.

If you’d like an access key or just want to chat about getting hold of Culture24’s listings data for re-use, research or publishing purposes please get in touch.
