The Space partnership

Culture24 has been working with The Space to help bring arts organisations closer to audiences via a series of free workshops.

Our workshops for museum professionals explore how digital technologies and platforms can be used by museums, galleries and collections to give greater access to their collections and engage audiences.

The first workshop took place in Manchester in early July 2018 and explored the work of various practitioners who each discussed their work via short case studies that addressed access to collections and the use of technology and online strategies to reach different and new audiences.

Sarah Toplis, commissioning executive for The Space, was joined by Culture24 editor and content manager Richard Moss to discuss some of the critical success factors for the digital curation of collections. They illustrated their conversation with examples of projects drawn from museums and galleries from across the UK.

The workshop also weaved small group discussions between the presentations and case studies, providing opportunities for attendees to talk about their own work and ideas, to explore some of the challenges and limitations of digital for museums and galleries and to look at ways arts organisations might apply new approaches to their collection work in the future.
