Let’s Get Real: Understanding Hybrid

Understanding Hybrid working in the cultural sector

The forced experiments of remote working in 2020 and the hybrid reality of 2021 have made all of us working in arts and heritage organisations rethink how we work. The workspace is no longer only in the office, gallery or theatre, in some ways it can be wherever you are. Our communities are not always able to attend in person, but they still want a connection. The challenge now and for the next few years, is to work out what this means for all of us in practice.

In February 2022, Culture24’s groundbreaking Let’s Get Real action research programme will focus the next phase on the hybrid workspace and what it means for our sector. Before we open the programme for sign up we are asking people working in arts and heritage organisations to give us three minutes of your time to fill in a quick survey to help us understand which areas of hybrid working you are finding the most challenging or rewarding. The results from this survey will help us shape the next programme and ensure LGR continues to support the sector to become more relevant, resilient and responsive to digital cultural changes. The survey will close on Thursday 18th November.

Since 2010 Culture24’s Let’s Get Real collaborative action research programme has involved 250+ organisations and 380+ participants; generated 9 action research projects, 8 conferences, 700+ conference attendees, 6 published reports and 34,000+ report downloads. In 2020/21 we switched to online delivery and this 2022 programme, focusing on hybrid working, will also be delivered mainly online but will have some face-to-face networking events for participants.

Each LGR project follows a structured process that combines collaborative discussion with expert input and individual practical action. Participants will be guided by Culture24’s experienced leadership team – Jane Finnis and Anra Kennedy, working in partnership with Zak Mensah and Birmingham Museums Trust.

The programme is shaped to make the most of the advantages that online working can offer with a mix of whole-group webinars to share theory and content, combined with participatory online activities, reflections and discussions in groups of varying sizes and make-up; regular expert-led ‘surgeries’; individual mentoring and a range of informal social opportunities.
